We understand the importance of pediatric eye examinations in ensuring the lifelong health and wellbeing of your child’s vision. That’s why our comprehensive pediatric eye exams are designed to assess not only vision, but also overall eye health.
Importance of pediatric eye examinations
Early detection of eye problems is essential for children, as many vision issues can have long-term effects if left untreated. Pediatric eye exams, starting as early as 6 months of age, are vital in identifying conditions such as a squint or lazy eye. If treated promptly, we can prevent permanent vision impairment in adulthood.Common symptoms of vision problems in children
Parents should be vigilant for signs that may indicate vision problems in children, including:- Frequent eye rubbing
- Squinting or closing one eye
- Holding objects very close to the face
- Difficulty focusing or following objects with their eyes
- Excessive tearing or eye drainage
- Red or swollen eyes
During your child’s pediatric eye exam
During the entire examination process, we prioritize your child’s comfort and wellbeing, ensuring they are relaxed and comfortable. We also adapt to their abilities by using pictures if they are unable to read. The typical durations of our pediatric eye exams are as follows:- Screening: 15 minutes
- Wellness Eye Exam (no problems): 30 minutes
- Eye Exam with concerns: 45 minutes
Recommended frequency of examinations
Ideally, children should undergo regular eye exams at least once a year, especially during critical developmental stagesContact lenses for children
We offer contact lens fitting services from the age of 10, ensuring that children receive the appropriate training and support for safe and comfortable contact lens wear. The measurements for the trial contact lens will be taken during the Comprehensive Eye exam. Once a contact lens is selected a 30 minute training session will be scheduled with one of our experienced technicians. During this session, the child will be taught to insert and remove their contact lenses independently. Once the child demonstrates they are able to insert and remove the contact lens independently, we will provide trial lenses for one week. If they are unable to successfully insert and remove their lenses after the initial training session, we offer another try at a future date. We understand learning to wear contact lenses can take time and patience, and we are committed to supporting your child throughout the process.Glasses for children
