The importance of pre & post operative care
Pre and post-operative care play a crucial role in ensuring successful outcomes for eye surgeries. This comprehensive care approach helps prepare patients for surgery, minimize risks, and optimize recovery post-procedure. By addressing patient concerns, conducting thorough assessments, and providing ongoing support, we aim to enhance patients’ comfort and satisfaction throughout their surgical journey.
When is pre & post operative care needed?
Pre and post-operative care is necessary for various eye surgeries, including cataract surgery and refractive surgery, such as LASIK or PRK. These services are designed to evaluate patient candidacy, educate patients about the surgical process, and monitor progress during the recovery phase.
Our preoperative consultations
For peace of mind, patients receive detailed guidelines and instructions on how the surgery works, including the surgical process, and what to expect during, and right after the surgery. This enables optimal outcomes and a smooth recovery process. While specific instructions are provided by the surgical center, our team remains available for additional support and follow-up care as needed.
Our pre-operative assessments
Our pre-operative assessments involve comprehensive evaluations tailored to the specific surgical procedure.
Cataract surgery
For cataract surgery, assessments include a dilated fundus exam to assess cataract formation and evaluate posterior segment health. Measurements are taken, and updated prescriptions are obtained to assist the surgeon in selecting the optimal lens implant.
Refractive surgery
For refractive surgery, extensive testing determines candidacy, including corneal thickness measurements and anterior and posterior segment evaluations. Consultations cover surgery techniques, potential upgrades, and expectations post-surgery.
Long-term Care
Co-management of pre and post-operative care allows for continuity of care and personalized attention. Our established relationships with patients facilitate a more comfortable and reassuring post-surgery experience, with ongoing support from familiar faces and without the need for long drives.
For cataract surgery, patients are seen for follow-up visits one day and one week after each eye surgery. Additionally, one month following the second eye surgery, we conduct a comprehensive examination to ensure both eyes have fully healed post-surgery, updating glasses prescriptions if needed.
Refractive surgery patients receive comprehensive post-operative care, with appointments scheduled at various intervals to monitor progress.
